Delete your account

You can delete your Mind Universe account whenever you like, from inside the app, and it takes one form. This page says where it is, what it removes, and what to do if you cannot get in.
If you can sign in
- Open Mind Universe — the app on your phone, or the website.
- Open Settings and scroll to the bottom, to Leaving.
- Take the export if you want it: every entry, its reading, its themes and the threads between them, in one file.
- Type your password (or, if you came in with Google and never set one, your username) and press Delete everything.
It is done straight away. Nobody has to approve it and there is nothing to wait for.
What is removed
- Your account: your email address, username, name, bio and profile picture, and the hash of your password.
- Every entry you wrote, private or public, with its picture, its reading, its themes and the threads that ran through it.
- Your letters to your future self, your comments, and your messages.
- Who you follow, what you resonated with and what you saved.
- The people you blocked, the reports you made, and any report somebody made about what you wrote.
There is no bin to recover any of it from, and your username and email address are freed for anyone to use again.
What stays
Other people's own writing. An entry of theirs that grew out of one of yours remains theirs, with nothing where yours was, and a comment you left on their entry goes while their entry stays. A conversation between two people goes entirely, both sides of it.
What lasts a little longer
Where the host keeps a backup of the whole database in case a disk breaks, a copy made before you deleted your account still contains it until that copy rotates away. Backups are never read except to put the app back after something has gone wrong. The privacy page has the detail.
If you cannot sign in
Write from the email address you signed up with to gio.chipchiuri@gmail.com with the subject Delete my Mind Universe account. It is deleted by hand, usually within a week, and you are written back to when it is done.
